A group of inhabitants gathered to form a religious society to be called the Second Baptist Society of Lysander. Elected as trustees were: Christopher Forncrook, Nathaniel Sherrill, Peter Earl, Dr. Ezra Baker, Thomas Clark, and Ambrose B. Kellogg. Members of the society included: Judah Wright, Nathaniel Palmer, Joseph Betts, Ira Woodward, Benjamin Rathbone, Harvey Smith, Rowland Palmer, Jonathan Palmer, David W. Gifford, Horace Stow, Gilbert Palmer, and John Palmer. The worship house was completed in 1833.
A survey by Asa Baker was completed for a graveyard on lot 35 in Lysander containing one acre of land. Prices for a plot in the cemetery ranged from $1.50 to $5.00 and to open the grave a bill was issued for 75 cents.
The trustees of the church deeded the cemetery over to the newly formed Jacksonville Rural Cemetery Association.
On December 3, 1870 the Jacksonville Rural Cemetery Association was organized and incorporated. Among the first trustees were: Edward Bentley, Turner Cornell, Alanson Dunham, Simeon Blakeman, Melvin P. Palmer, Frederick W. Fenner, William Fancher, Oscar Allen, Daniel Eggleston, George Fisher, Thomas Gifford, and Nelson C. Dunham.
The cemetery association is very active and the trustees work throughout the year to ensure our beautiful historic cemetery looks nice and stays in compliance with the various regulations of the State of New York.
